Effective: 2005-06 For Entering Ninth Graders

        I.    All four required credits in Social Studies shall comply with the current Alabama Course of Study.

 

     II.    May be waived if competencies outlined in the computer applications course are demonstrated to qualify staff in the local school system.  The designed credit shall then be added to the elective credits, making a total of six elective credits on the Alabama High School Standard Diploma and the Alternate Adult High School Diploma and fours elective credits on the Alabama Occupational Diploma and four elective credits on the Alabama Occupational Diploma and the Alabama High School Diploma with Advanced Academic Endorsement.

 

   III.    Students earning the diploma with the advanced academic endorsement must successfully complete two credits in the same foreign language.

 

2.      Assessment Requirements

Pass the required statewide assessment for graduation.

 

3.      Graduation Requirements

Twenty-four (24) units of credits are required for graduation beginning with students who entered high school as first time freshman in the 1996-1997 school year and ending with student who entered high school as first time freshman in the 2003-2004 school year.

 

Twenty-seven (27) units of credits are required for graduation for students entering high school as first time freshman beginning with the 2004-2005 school year.

 

4.      Promotional Requirements

Students enrolled in high school prior to the 2004-2005 school year, must earn a total of 6 credits to be promoted to the 10th grade, a total of 12 credits to be promoted to the 11th grade, and a total of 19 credits to be promoted to the 12th grade.

 

Beginning with the 2004-2005 freshman class, students must earn a total of 7 credits to be promoted to the 10th grade, a total of 13 credits to be promoted to the 11th grade, and a total of 19 credits to be promoted to the 12th grade.

 

5.      Special Education Students

Special Education Students will receive a Certificate of Graduation.

 

Special Education Students who are interested in pursing the Alabama High School Standard Diploma must meet all requirements specified in the regular curriculum and as stated in the Individual Education Plan (IEP).

 

Special Education Students who are interested in pursing the Alabama Occupational Diploma (AOD) must follow the state mandated guidelines, which are subject to change.

 

6.      P.E. Substitutions

Marching Band, ROTC, or a Career Technical course maybe substituted for P.E.
